What is Smile Design?
Smile design, which is the subject of aesthetic dentistry, is the transformation of teeth and gums, which create a distorted appearance for various reasons, into a beautiful appearance suitable for face shapes, taking into account the patient’s demands. Since this technique requires many processes, it is performed by more than one dentist in coordination. Before starting the smile design application, the following factors are decisive in making the design;
The patient’s facial features
Gender and age
shape of lips
smile symmetry
Color and order of teeth
finish lines of lips
condition of the gums
How is Smile Design Made?
While preparing the smile design, first of all, what the patient expects from this application should be learned in detail. Afterwards, the patient’s mouth and structure are examined and the problems are determined by the dentist. After photographing the patient’s facial structure and mouth, they are transferred to the computer environment and sized. After the necessary arrangements are made on the photograph, an image that is close to the appearance that will occur as a result of the application is shown to the patient and the treatment and applications to be made are explained. After the patient’s approval for the draft smile design is obtained, the following applications are usually performed according to the problems in the patient’s mouth structure:
Elimination of alignment disorders of teeth
Closing the gaps between the teeth without cutting
Elimination of gum and level problems
Ensuring the harmony of cheeks and lips with teeth
Treatment of crooked and broken teeth
Teeth whitening to remove discoloration
Caries and root canal treatments
Complementing missing teeth with implants or bridges
Application of dermal filler and botox (if necessary)
These applications are made in a certain order. For example, when root canal treatment is performed, a certain period of time is expected for recovery. Some applications can also be done on the same day.
