The anatomical spaces in the upper jaws just above the teeth are called the maxillary sinus. Maxillary sinuses continue their growth throughout life.

The increase in the volume of the sinuses leads to a decrease in the bone volume in the upper jaws. These bone losses, which can be considered physiologically, can reach dimensions that do not allow implant applications.

In this case, if implant therapy is to be applied, a special surgical intervention called “Sinus Lifting”, aimed at reducing the volume of the sinuses and increasing the bone volume, should be applied.

With this operation, which can be performed under local or general anesthesia according to the patient’s request, bone particles are placed between the jawbone and the sinus mucosa and bone formation is expected in the following six months.

For this purpose, bones from the patient’s own body can be used, as well as bone obtained from bone banks and inorganic materials.

After the bone formation is completed, routine implant applications are started.

One of the biggest long-term problems after tooth extraction is the melting of the jaw bones. If the treatment of tooth loss is to be eliminated with implant applications, bone height and volume become even more important. Implant application requires the presence of bone of certain height and thickness.

Decreases in bone volume as a result of tooth loss at an early age or intense gingivitis can be eliminated by bone repairs. These repairs can be performed with the bone taken from the patients’ own bodies, and inorganic materials can be applied for the same purpose.
